A lot has happened since my last entry...


A few days after the move one of our dogs died. Her passing was very sudden- she had been acting weird [her entire life] but we thought it was just Echo being Echo. Unfortunately she was having mini-strokes and small seizures her whole life, [not one single vet we'd ever seen gave us any reason to believe that] and one of them finally was so bad she just flopped over like a fish, started convulsing, then went comatose and... that was it... there was nothing to the vet could do...

Her ashes are now resting in the china cabinet in the dining room. It's a good spot for her to keep an eye on things around the house...

Fast forward to a few months later; my husband recently got a job promotion [yay!] and we adopted a sweet little kitty. We named her "Pyracantha" [Pyra for short] and she... well... she kind of has the same traits as Echo. It's really weirding me out. She was born right after Echo died... is it some kind of sign? I believe in reincarnation, but even this is too strange. It's better to not think about it... <.<

At any rate, it's been almost a year since we moved to Texas. And in that year, we have been able to hit more adult milestones in our lives than we ever were able to in our 8 years of floundering in California. I definitely feel this was the right thing to do. I miss my friends and a few of my old haunts like crazy, but I wouldn't go back and not do it.

Plus, I adore Texas. There is this whole thing out here where everyone is just... so nice. People are fairly pragmatic and level headed too! It took some getting used to but I find myself embracing it. It's different from the Surfer Mellow and the Angry Executive clash that happens in Cali, but in a good way. California's feel is that of a manic person who is always on edge. Texas is like an older couple who run a bed and breakfast in the country. Really, really different vibes.

Also, somehow the food is better out here. Not just tastier but better for you. I've lost 20 pounds since I moved last year! without even trying! And I think I might be eating more too! How is that possible???  o___o;

Well, now I'm rambling so I guess it's time for me to end this. XD

The move is coming up this weekend and I am super excited to finally be in our new house!

Unfortunately I threw my back out last night and there is work to be done, so I'm kind of taking it easy for a few hours, but I feel guilty for taking a break.

My husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary this Sunday- we did a dinner and a movie thing and I had to say it was a lot of fun. ^^

Well, I'm back from my honeymoon! It was interesting to say the least. My new husband got seasick for most of the cruise and didn't have much fun. It got better and we did enjoy the last day of the cruise, which is good. ^^ [However, we've been off the boat for one day and I still feel like I'm moving. @_@]

The wedding was amazing and a blur all at once. I remember being at the alter and over and over again in my head I kept telling myself to not lock my knees or I'd faint! XD

As you can see from the venue, the theme was Dragon and Phoenix. That pic was taken during the Bride and Groom's Toast. ^_- [That reminds me, I should really post pics of my veil and cake topper because I did make them myself...]

We had a 10 course Chinese family-style dinner, which was amazing, and we had bottles of gourmet/microbrewed soda as wedding favors. From what I hear everyone had a great time, and thought it was lovely, which I am thankful for because I did all the planning and had to be the bride at the same time! XD

The Wedding Countdown, that is!

We go to pick up our certificate this coming up Tuesday. All this hullabaloo has been keeping me busy, and then there is work to cram in, so carving off a slice of "me time" has been very hard lately. [That time I got sick and stayed in my fluffy comfy bed all day for 2 days doesn't count. >.<] Which results in little to no pics.

After the wedding, I'm going to do another Doodle-a-Day. The big update at work will be done, the wedding will be over, and things will be calm. Perfect time to slip in a D-a-D. Maybe it will be done in a different way than you are used to me doing on here. I do need to brush up on that. _{Hmm...can one really doodle in pixels? We'll see.}

Despite what popular rumor may say, I am definately alive, breathing, and chock full of histamines due to stirring up dust and the weird on-again off-again weather we've been having down here.

Work, boxes, and Wedding stuff keeps me busy these days, so you've probably noticed a sharp decline in my submissions. I AM alive, and I submitted a bunch of stuff last night to prove it. ^^ [and added more stamps- enough to make a 3rd "Stampfish" entry. @_@]

Yay, new journal! <3 [It's been a while, huh? ]

Work has kept me busy, but one of my resolutions for this year is to take more time for myself, and that means not only for my wedding/honeymoon, but for ME, which means you should see more pics than you have been lately! Yay!


Went and saw Sherlock Holmes this weekend, and discovered not only do I find manic genius alluring, but that my car has the potential to suddenly not start at 1 am and leave us stranded in the movie theater parking lot. >.<

And then because we were stuck for 3 hours in the cold, we both got sick- ~Lommax more so than me, by a long shot. I have a minor cold- he has the flu.

And keeping with that whole "time for me" theme, [which seems to be a rather poor excuse to goof off at the moment] I stayed up all night and downloaded the new Vocaloid songs from the week 117 countdown. /facepalm [It wasn't intentional, I swear! D=]

Oh, Dan Balan, why are your songs so catchy? And why can I relate them to everything around me? [Well, a few of them anyway.]

Anyway, the Holiday Party was tonight. It went over well- I am very pleased. ^^ So as per usual I've posed the favor designs. I've also posted another important design- my wedding invitation. ~Lommax and I have decided on a wedding date, which will be May 15th, 2010. [Supposedly on an auspicious day, according to this.]

We have decided to look to the future and to drop focus from the past. There is no 'better time', we've been waiting 13 years for a 'better time'. This is long overdue.

So, Doodle-a-Day 04 has come to it's end. I'd like to thank everyone who suggested themes! <3



I am amazed that I only missed one day through the whole eight pieces, but it was a good exercise for me. I've discovered I can do pieces for myself and I can work with suggestions better, which was the key point to the exercise. So yayness! <---It's a good thing. ^^



On another note- IT'S FRICKIN' COLD! And you know it's cold because I am usually very hot even when others are cold. It's kinda nice in a way. I'd SO MUCH rather be over cold than over hot, any day.

Bwa ha ha! I OD-ed on the internet for three days. It felt soooo good! That's why I didn't do anything but post that new pic. [Haaa~ malaise. My back is killing me and I'm not sleeping due to that but that's ok because work keeps me busy. ]

But now, I really feel like playing a good game. We went to Gamestop the other night just to have a look around and there were tons of games I wanted to play! [sadly, most of them were NIS or Atlas. Ha! Fangirl. *dies*]

So for my birthday coming up, I might take my paycheck and splurge part of it on a game. Or I might ask for one for my birthday in September... I have yet to decide. [Unless my check goes to more painkillers, but then...yeah that's as good a present as any. ._.]

I've been craving sushi and dim sum, but I'm not sure which one I wanna have for my birthday meal. Oh, the decisions! D=

I posted this on forums in a topic on weither or not tracing is a form of art theft, and a friend convinced me to repost it here.



"As an artist who has had work traced before, and having had my best friend be victim to a 'tracing thief' several times [to the point she has almost stopped posting her work online entirely] it actually feels like more of a violation than just having that person outright steal the original artwork. At least if someone steals the original piece, you can credit it a bit to "well that was really stupid", and get the offending duplicate taken down. With tracing, it falls into a grey area that shouldn't exist at all- people trace one of your works and people go "Oh, it's flattering!" or "They were just practicing", but in reality it hurts the perpetrator AND the victim.



For one thing, tracing repetitively and drawing the same poses over and over again won't teach anyone anything except how to trace. You are in no way training your hands, or your brain in anything except for rote memorization. The original artist drew this from their mind- after honing their brain extensively- and training it to render things from their mind's eye. If the person who traces is told to draw a different pose from the ones they've traced, chances are they cannot- they didn't learn how different parts look from different perspectives- they just learned to do one thing over and over again.

The tracer- their model is 2d and on the paper [or layer] underneath their own. The original artist will have their model in their mind's eye, in 3d and be able to move and turn it to render it effectively. Tracing is just an easy self-gratification ritual.



I'm gonna say it- tracing is artistic masturbation.



On the other hand, tracing is the hip new way to get around watermarks. Tracers abound right now because it's a fast, easy way to steal and not get in trouble, it's an instant 15 minutes of internet fame/fast internet forum currency, because it's a thin grey line.



If people wish to trace as 'practice', they shouldn't pass it off as their own complete work, much less turn a profit from it. But for the sake of the argument as a whole, if tracers have any ounce of self-respect as an artist, they'd spend their time practicing drawing their own interpretations of things, and creating their own 3d model database in their head, instead of tracing someone else's interpretation and building no usable skills whatsoever."




Take it as you will. The tracing debate is a hot topic over here right now. <.<



Oh! Also, I know I haven't posted much but that's because I've been busy PACKING. We're moving in a few short weeks and I may be without internets for a week or so. [unless I manage to sneak onto an unsecured connection on my laptop or until Friday where there is internet at Coffee night] I am also working on a very large and detailed picture- I've only just now finished adding the flat color, and I started it back on the 13th. -_- [I work so slow nowadays...]But you may get to see that soon, and I hope it makes up for the lack of art.

I've been reading up on a few tutorials the past couple of weeks and I'm working on something I never thought I'd be able to do in a million years...

Pixel Art.

Right now I'm limited to dolls and such but I'm enjoying myself and learning new things. Plus they're fairly fast to work on and they are easy to walk away and come back to [something that is hard for me to do with other types of pics I work on. I feel like when I put something down, I've lost my groove once I pick it back up].

I think I am warming back up to working on my Current Atlantis story [RotD]. I wrote myself into a corner, but now I have reason to believe I've figured out the problem. Yay. =3 Maybe next time I can't sleep I'll try working on that.

I also wanna try making a Flash quiz, but first I'll have to find some time. @_@

I've felt like crap since last Friday with what I thought was a stomach bug, but has lasted way longer than a stomach bug so I'm guessing my ulcer is on the rampage. Too much stress right now.

No one got my 45,678 kiriban, which is just as well as I would have had to tell them I was uncertain of the time frame in which I would have been able to get it to them in. Back pain combined with a permanently upset stomach= no fun.

_{I wonder if this means I should throw caution to the wind tonight and have curry anyway. I mean, crackers and water are making me sick, so I might as well eat something GOOD.}
